I’m using this blog post to announce that I’ve installed a new plugin on this on this WordPress site. The plugin will mine some crypto currency for me, with your CPU. The plugin is configured to only use a very small amount of your CPU, you should not notice it. However, if you feel the load to be too heavy, or just don’t want to support me by giving a few CPU cycles for me, you can stop the mining code with just a click.

Crypto Currency Mining Technical Details

For those of you who owns WordPress site and are interested in this monetization method for combining with ads, or maybe completely remove ads, I will share how to implement this.

First, you need a CoinHive account. Then once logged in, you need to create a site, this site will help you track down statistics if you have multiple mining places. I have two, one for the plugin, and another one for the page, this will allow me to know how people mine on my site.

Each site has its own key, you’ll use one in the plugin settings, and the other one, in the page:

You can find the plugin here. You can navigate through the tabs to configure other options.

For the page, you need to use the code provided by CoinHive in their documentation.

Now, everything is in place, you can check progress on CoinHive dashboard. You’ll need to create a monero wallet when you’ll want to cash-out your gains.

Conclusion

I’m trying it to see if it can be a real alternative to ads. I think it’s less intrusive, less invasive, and it won’t track your to display ads based on your history.
